The Success of Professional Poker Player Chau Giang
Chau Giang is of Chinese descent who was born in Saigon, Vietnam in 1956. His decision to leave Vietnam and look for a better life in the United States seemed to be the right one because it was such move that gave him the opportunity to become successful in playing poker professionally.
It was in the 1970s when Chau Giang relocated to Florida to look for work. He did not have a hard time looking for jobs. In fact, he held several jobs when he was in Florida. However, such jobs only earned him minimum wages.
Chau Giang eventually relocated to Colorado with the intention of experiencing a better life. He became a chef in the said state wherein he earned an amount of US$160 on a weekly basis. It was such move to Colorado that gave him the chance to be exposed to the game of poker. Chau Giang did not only learn how to play poker during this time, but he also learned how to play such casino game really well. His exceptional poker skills made him decide to become a professional poker player. This was also the time when Chau Giang decided to move to Las Vegas, Nevada - he wanted to have more opportunities to play poker and earn money at the same time. His first year as a professional poker player actually inspired him more to take poker more seriously because it was during this year that he earned over US$100,000 by merely playing his favorite casino game.
The success of Chau Giang at the World Series of Poker started in 1993. He participated in the US$1,500 Pot Limit Hold'em event and placed second, losing to poker giant John Bonetti. It was also during this year that this professional poker player participated in the US$1,500 Ace to Five Draw event of the World Series of Poker. He did not place second this time but finished first, allowing him to earn his very first World Series of Poker bracelet.
It was in 1998 that Chau Giang won his second World Series of Poker bracelet. He earned this during his participation in the US$2,000 Omaha 8 or Better event. His third World Series of Poker bracelet was earned in 2004 when he participated in the US$2,000 Pot Limit Omaha event. Aside from the World Series of Poker bracelets, this professional poker player has also experienced money finishes thirty eight times.
Aside from his success at the World Series of Poker, Chau Giang has also experienced success in his participation in events conducted by the World Poker Tour. Although this professional poker player has not yet won a World Poker Tour title, he has already reached the final table five times and has experienced money finished eleven times.
Chau Giang does not believe that poker is a game of chance. For this professional poker player, poker is a game of skill. He believes that when poker players lose, it means that there is something wrong with the way they play.
Well, with all his achievements in the poker industry, this professional poker player is credible enough to say that poker is a game of skill more than anything else.
